Coil & Cord

Rope & Shibari

Coil & Cord is a rope and shibari studio in Gowanus, Brooklyn, offering classes and community space for practitioners at every level. Our classes are organized into the following categories:

  • Beginner – foundational knots, ties, and safety basics for those new to rope
  • Floor Work – ground-based tying, patterns, and technique without suspension
  • Harnesses for Suspension – building secure, load-bearing harnesses as a foundation for suspension work
  • Suspension – partial and full suspension technique, safety, and upline management
  • Self-Tying & Self-Suspension – instruction and techniques specific to self-tying and self-suspension with attention to the added safety and risk management these practices require

Rope workshops include the monthly Beginner Rope Intensive, intermediate classes on specific tying patterns and styles, suspension workshops, monthly AirFlow workshop on suspension transition sequences (different every month!), self-tying/self-suspension classes, and more!

We also offer regular Rope Jams & Open Practice, including the weekly Monday Open Rope Practice, monthly rope jams, and Rope Speed Scening (like speed dating, but rope!). Queer Rope Social and T4T Rope Night each offer exclusively queer or trans rope jam spaces.

Private instruction is available by appointment.

Whether you're tying for the first time or building on established skills, you'll find instruction, practice space, and a community built around care and consent.
